They appoint presiding and polling officers for the polling stations . वे मतदान केंद्रों के लिए प्रेजाइडिंग अधिकारी तथा मतदान अधिकारी नियुक़्त करते हैं .

It is the duty of the polling officers at a polling station to assist the The Election Commission , in consultation with the State Government , appoints a Returning Officer for every parliamentary and assembly constituency and for every election to fill a seat or seats in the Rajya Sabha . 4 मतदान केंद्र पर मतदान अधिकारी का यह कर्तवऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-य होता है कि वह प्रेजाइडिंग अधिकारी की उसके ऋतऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-यों के निर्वहन में करे . 5 सदसऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-यों का निर्वचन लोक सभा के लिए सामानऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-य निर्वचन उसकी कार्यावधि समापऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-त होनपे वाली हो या उसके भंग किए जाने पर कराए जाते है .

The entire electoral machinery of the Union as well as of the states is in the- hands of this centralised body , which alone is entitled to issue directives to returning officers , polling officers and others engaged in the preparation and revision of electoral , rolls so that no injustice may be done to any citizen of India by any local government . संघ तथा राज़्यों का पूरा निर्वाचनतंत्र इस केंद्रीकृत निकाय के हाथ में है और केवल वही निर्वाचक नामावलियों की तैयारी और पुनरीक्षण के काम में लगे निर्वाचन अधिकारियों , मतदान अधिकारियों तथा अन्य लोगों को यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए निदेश जारी करने का हकदार है कि भारत के किसी नागरिक के साथ कोई स्थानीय सरकार अन्याय न कर सके .
